A meme – 25 random things about me

by Valerie on January 28, 2009 · 5 comments

So I have been tagged by a couple of friends on Facebook. Here are the rules:

Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you.(To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app) then click publish.)

Here is my version – I took the random part of “random things, facts, habits or goals” to heart:

1. Memes and tagging is something where I have a hard time following the rules.
2. I especially do not like tagging other people – I think it should be up to people to elect to do a meme.
3. That said, I don’t mind being tagged for memes – in fact, it’s great for days like today where I have many half written posts that require more attention than I can give them just yet.
4. And I am not going to post this meme on Facebook because I would rather people come visit my blog.
5. Even though my blog is not my full-time job, and I have no aspirations to be a professional blogger, I really like getting lots of visitors.
6. I love the feedjit thing that tells me where people are visiting from. For some strange reason it makes me happy to know people far away are reading my blog.
7. Hopefully I won’t duplicate any of the answers on my 100 things meme from a few months ago, or from the several other memes I have done, including one on French foods.
8. When I write in bullets for anything (work, blog, myself) consistent punctuation at the end of each bullet is incredibly important to me.
9. I still miss New York a lot, but it helps that I do like my life and job in Washington, DC. And I love being in the same city as my husband all the time.
10. Being here during the inauguration was very exciting even though I hate crowds and cold weather and spent most of the day under a blanket at home on the daybed.
11. That daybed is one of the best furniture purchases ever.
12. Whenever I think of the pre-internet and pre-blogging world, I always get a little sad for people who couldn’t have wide readership on account of not being published in a book or newspaper. They had to account for the price of printing or mimeographs or photocopying and postage too.
13. The concept of free web publishing (like a blog or an online book) is amazing to me. I bet all these people would have loved it.
14. I am old enough to remember mimeographs. I think my fifth grade teacher still used them when the photocopier was broken.
15. I find that getting older is more isolating than I expected.
16. People get very busy with their lives.
17. I am just as guilty of it as anyone else.
18. And often it’s because I get home from work and it’s late and I am tired and I put off returning phone calls to the weekend.
19. But then I end up sending an email rather than picking up the phone because the weekend disappeared to more work and sleeping and errands.
20. I really love sleeping and I am at my best when I have slept 8-9 hours a night.
21. I wish I was one of those people who only sleeps 4 hours a night and feels good on 4 hours of sleep.
22. I tried that in college for a semester and ended up with a respiratory infection.
23. I really wish I could exercise in the morning.
24. I can do it in the spring and summer, but in fall and winter it is still very dark so early.
25. I can’t wait for the weather to get warmer. I dislike the cold so much at this point I would take DC summer hell over the weather in the teens. .

I am just like you on #8 and #23.

As a junior associate I was usually doing A LOT of diligence (shocker) and bullets in diligence reports were VERY important. So were periods at the end of every phrase…oh the quirks of us lawyers. I’m just as neurotic and quirky in the other areas of my life. :)
