Beauty Monday – The Essie Parade of Pale Pinks

by Valerie on May 4, 2009 · 8 comments

I admit it. I am in a rut when it comes to polish for my nails. And I love it. It’s something about the look of pale colors on my hands and how they don’t show chips – a good manicure can last almost 10-12 days with a pale polish – any tiny chips around day 10 are camouflaged, in pink no less.

The love affair started with OPI’s Coney Island Cotton Pink, then OPI’s Bubble Bath, then I switched to Essie in hopes it would have better holding power. And it did. It’s been 6 years, and Essie and I still get along great. I alternated between Essie’s Ballet Slippers and Mademoiselle for a long time. Then it was just Mademoiselle because it was paler and even more fuss-free. Now I am on a Essie Sugar Daddy kick because I wanted more pink in my pale pink. When I greened my nailcare, I still kept Essie around, because soon after my greening, I found out that their polishes no longer contained formaldehyde, TBP or toluene. And I couldn’t find a green brand that had the same touch with pale pink.

I think I have a new pale pink on the horizon – I read about Essie’s Eternal Optimist, a pinky nude, while I waiting to get my nails done yesterday. It seems a little more intense a pink from the picture (see above). Essie describes it as a Spiced Tea Rose – lovely! It’s on its way to me as we speak. I know it’s a bit more opaque than my favorites, but I am hoping it’s still low-maintenance. If not, there is always Mademoiselle and Sugar Daddy.

i agree! Essie has the best staying power, and it goes on pretty smoothly. i recently picked up some of their mini neon shades! so not office appropriate but i think i’ll use em for my next pedicure :-)

i also agree, essie is the bomb. AND my essie of choice for YEARS has been mademoiselle, no kidding! i’m a big fan of the pale pinky colors.

Hey City Girl,

Thanks for saying a prayer for Mocha….we truly appreciate it. I will keep you updated. :) Love this color pink. I don’t wear nail polish on my fingers but I love wearing this color pink on my toes! :)

Ballet Slippers and Mademoiselle are also my two faves! Nothing wrong with a pale pink rut, I think.

I totally agree with you about the nude manicures. They last and you don’t have to worry about all those nasty chips showing too much…
although if you saw my nails right now you would probably cringe. I haven’t had a manicure in a long long time.
I think it’s time to splurge.

I’m hooked on Essie’s pale pinks too. Ballet Slippers is my favorite. I’ll be on the lookout for Eternal Optimist. It sounds like another winner!

Which ‘green’ nailpolishes would you recommend?..I’ve heard zoya is relatively green. Would love to know your faves..:)
