Tour del Gelato Stop at Dolcezza Argentine Gelato

It’s sweltering here this week, so it’s time for a Tour del Gelato stop. When I moved back to Washington, DC late last fall, Dolcezza Gelato was getting a lot of attention in the media – in fact, it was mentioned in either the December or January Bon Appetit.

So, even though it was freezing cold, husband and I walked to their North Georgetown location a couple of days after Christmas. But then, it felt silly to post a Tour del Gelato review in the dead of winter. Well, better late than never, right?

Dolcezza Gelato serves up Argentine gelato which, according to this write-up, means it’s lighter and less substantive. I find it a bit airier perhaps than traditional gelato, but
I do like their inventive flavors like Lemon Ricotta, Orange Honey Cardamom, and Bourbon Blood Orange.

The day we went to Dolcezza in the middle of winter, I had Pistachio and Gianduja Chocolate, and husband had Orange Honey Cardamom and Hazelnut. I tend to try Pistachio and/or Hazelnut when I try a new gelato place, and these were good, but the true star was the Orange Honey Cardamom.

Since that day, we have not made the trek to Georgetown, mainly because Dolcezza sells pints at the Dupont Market:

Before switching to a dairy-free diet in April, we did partake a couple of times from the Dupont Market Dolcezza stand. The gelato is equally delicious, though as a result of being packed, it is quite dense in comparison to the one we had at their Georgetown location.
