E-Book Review: Ana Ottman’s Discovering Your Right Livelihood

When Ana Ottman of Creatuitive Coaching asked me if I would like to receive a copy of her e-book and told me a little more about it – that it is designed for ambitious young women who seek professional fulfillment – I immediately responded “I so wish you had written this 10 years ago.”

You see, I am 30, almost 31, and 10 years ago I was just finishing up my first year in the “real world.” Yes, the math is correct. I had graduated from college at 19 and was very unsure of what I wanted to do. I knew I would go to grad and/or law school, but I knew that going straight through was likely not a good idea.

So I took a consulting job and by the end of my first year there, just as I was about to turn 21, I was incredibly disenchanted. In hindsight, I realize that it was much more the actual substantive work that disenchanted me more than the fact it was a corporate environment though, to be fair, the corporate culture of that particular firm was not a good fit for me. One thing I have learned since is that there are very marked differences between corporate environments and that many of them suit me, while others do not.

At the time, the perfect tool to begin learning about what suited me would have been Ana’s 14-page e-book. You see, it is not intimidating like certain self-help books are. I remember looking at a variety of books during that phase in my life, but the professional ones were not designed for someone quite as early in their career as me, and at the time I did not realize that the creatively oriented ones, like the Artist’s Way, were just as suitable for someone like me, even though I did not, and still do not, seek a creative career.

Ana’s interactive e-book bridges the gap very nicely between those different types of book. It is packed with thoughtful exercises, tips and inspirational quotes. It is light and portable, ideal for keeping with your journal as you work through it. And, as Carolyn pointed out in her review, because it is an e-book, you can complete it many times.
