Noshtopia’s Peppadew and Edamame Hummus

Thanksgiving 2009 019
I love hummus. It is so easy to make.  And quick too.  I usually make a very basic hummus recipe most weeks and it makes me so very happy, but, when I saw the Noshtopia recipe for Peppadew and Edamame Hummus, I knew I had to try it when I read it had a cheesy flavor.  At that point, dressed-up hummus was less interesting than replicating cheesiness – it’s been over 6 months since I have eaten any cheese, and I sorely miss it.  I do not like pickles but I figured I would make the exception once, and this hummus was really very tasty and definitely provided a cheesy experience, particularly when part of a sandwich with lots of arugula {I used Food for Life brown rice flour bread for this sandwich, but I imagine it would be lovely on a nice sourdough or even a baguette}.  To make this recipe, I used a batch of my basic hummus recipe, but you could also use already prepared hummus from the store.

Also, I strongly encourage you to check out Noshtopia, which is a fabulous food blog about making healthier eating fun and realistic.  Noshtopia also has a lovely little sister, Noshtopia Iphone Food Pics, which is a micro-blog of great food pics, including some guilty pleasures.

P.S. I think I am going to move from my What’s Cooking Wednesday recipe format to City Girl Eats – it could be a recipe, but also a review of a food item, or tea, or food website. You get the idea.  As with all blog categories and switches, I am still trying things out, but I like that City Girl Eats is more chatty, which is how my blog is leaning these days.

This looks amazing. I need to go back, but are you cutting out dairy and gluten, or are you just sticking with plants? How fun. I love making hummus too, and am starting to get creative with sundried tomatoes and marinated artichoke hearts. Yum!

Hi SallieAnne – I need to post an update. I went on this really restricted diet back in June which was an elimination diet to figure out food allergies, but also for other health reasons. It's been a long long long process (longer than if it was just straight food allergy elimination). I am still on the same food plan to some degree.

Love the idea of City Girl Eats – much broader than just "What's Cooking"! Can't wait to see what's on this Wednesday!

aww! Now you're making me blush đŸ˜€ Thank you for those very kind words, and I'm glad that you liked the hummus. When I had hard core vegans tell me they thought the hummus tasted cheesey, I thought I scored a touchdown. Even did a little dance lol! It's amazing what peppadews add.

Happy New Year!

This sandwich looks so good! I must try making it!

I see that you can't eat sugar/chocolate. I borrowed a book from the library the other day called "Sugar-free gluten-free baking and desserts : recipes for healthy and delicious cookies, cakes, muffins, scones, pies, puddings, breads and pizzas
by Keough, Kelly E."

I think it may help you and you may find some success in this recipe book, I did!

Regards,
Northern Girl
