Holiday Markets and Glamkats

Yesterday, my husband and I went uptown to do one of my favorite things during the holidays, namely walking around and seeing all the pretty holiday lights. My favorite this year was an enormous blue and white snowflake at the top of Fifth Avenue.

Before we did the walk, though, we went to the Holiday Market at Columbus Circle. To be honest, I had kind of forgotten about it (and its sister market at Union Square) this year, so it was a lovely surprise to stumble on it. The Holiday Market at Columbus Circle is in its third year, so this was my first time going there. There were dozens of stalls with lots of lovely handmade gifts, including my good food gifts. On the beauty front, there were many of the bath and body stalls that I see at street fairs in the summer, including Copa Soaps, which I reviewed a few months ago.

My favorite stall of the market, though, was glamkats. My husband saw it first and dragged me back (I was wandering towards yet another soap stand LOL) and I was thoroughly enchanted by all the different kitties of glamkats. The handiwork and creativity of each piece (err, kitty) is just lovely. I met the owner and creative force of Glamkats, Consuelo Gonzalez, and succumbed to the charm of the Noelle kitty doll, who has a peace sign charm at the end of her tail. What I loved is that each piece can speak to different sides of people’s personalities and ages — please, please, please check out the site, even if you don’t like cats, because these are no ordinary cats (or dolls) at all. And if you have to make a gift to someone who has it all, a glamkat might be just what she needs. I am waiting for when my friends have little girls going to ballet classes to get them the Galina Ballerina doll.

Next year I promise to give you this information earlier — but to help you plan if you are in the city, check out this link. I am off to upstate New York today — it’s going to be cold so I am armed with all my moisturizers and lip balms! Happy Holidays to all, and thank you for reading.
