Beauty Monday – Fighting Winter Dryness

by Valerie on November 24, 2008 · 1 comment

It has been ridiculously cold for Washington lately. While my friends keep reminding me New York is generally colder, it’s still been really cold here. And of course, despite my year-round moisturizing, I found myself reaching for the heaviest body butter I own – Coconut Hut Beauty’s Big Kahuna Body Butter. In the dead of winter, I find that body butters are a necessity for deep moisture and to allow your skin to have a barrier against the cold and dryness. Butters with ingredients like shea butter, avocado butter, cocoa butter or beeswax all help moisturize and protect your skin.

One of my long-standing favorites is Coconut Hut’s. It is thick, over 98% natural, paraben free, is made up of 25% shea butter (one of my favorite ingredients) and just generally decadent and wonderful. Lena of Coconut Hut came out with this product back in fall of 2005, and I have been using it since the first month it was released! I especially love that I can pick any of the scents on the Coconut Hut extensive scent list. I tend to use the body butter at night because, while it’s not greasy, it still takes a long time to sink in, so I don’t want to risk staining any of my work clothes. Lena has a pre-holiday sale every November, so now is a good time to order.

body butter is definitely the way to go. Indeed it has been FREEZING in NY. I can’t begin to imagine what the real winter will be like since November was so cold.

Ask your friends to send you products from Sabon. There are many locations around the city and their body butter is fabulous. In fact, their lotions and shower scrubs are pretty wonderful. I’m pretty sure you can buy online…

Other than those products I love the general over-the-counter Vaseline intensive care, Vitamin E cream from Fruit of the Earth and the Nivea products.
