Above is our Zipcar from this past weekend’s trip to upstate New York. I love Zipcar, especially because a couple of dozen live within a few blocks of me in Washington, DC.  We got back last night, which means I have spent all of today thinking it is Monday, when it actually already is Tuesday.

Last week was busy at work as I got ready to go away for 4 days.  On the blog front I was very excited about my  guest post on Corporette regarding eating gluten-free in business settings and some of the great comments I got, as well as a post on travelling with a gluten-free, vegan and allergy-friendly diet and a scrumptious Black Mission Fig Ice Cream recipe.

Finally, a note on movement – usually, when I travel, I try to cram in workouts and yoga classes pre-travelling, and do not worry about formal movement while travelling.  Last week was very busy at work, so while I got in 2 7am yoga classes and a short session on the elliptical, I was determined to workout while travelling.  I assumed that would mean bringing my yoga mat and using one of my Kimberly Wilson CDs, but I ended up googling Zumba and discovering a Binghamton Zumba class just 20 minutes from where I was staying at a time that fit my schedule.  I went the first day there, and it was a great way to move after 7+ hours in the car. The instructor (Maria) was super-dynamic. The next day, my husband and I went for a super fast walk up some hills, and I finished that off with 10 minutes on a (bad) elliptical.  Doing two workouts while travelling and busy with family was an accomplishment for me – and one of my inspirations was the District Chocoholic’s HLS workshop on maintaining healthy habits while travelling.

And speaking of healthy habits, I need sleep. Good night.

I love exercising on vacation. My husband thinks I'm nuts, but it gets me out of my exercise rut and I get to try different activities. Glad you found a fun class to try!

So glad you got in a couple of workouts – I find being on the road for vacation gives you a chance to check out new exercise surroundings – like your zumba class! One of my favorite parts of my visit to Hawaii was the fact that I got to swim in the ocean for my workouts.
