Of Bridal Makeovers and Almonds (Cookies, not Jordan)

It’s been way too long since I have written on the blog, but I started a new job this past week, which made life hectic. I did want to catch you all up on a few personal beauty-related news:

1. Last weekend I took my bride-to-be friend Christina for a bridal makeover at Nordstrom at Pentagon City. When she mentioned she wanted to try Bobbi Brown, I immediately got so excited, because that meant I could make her appointment with Diron Carr. Diron is an amazingly talented makeup artist with Bobbi Brown at Nordstrom. One of the things I really appreciate about him is that he adapts his makeovers to individual style. He gave my friend Christina a beautiful understated look, focusing on her light green eyes using the following eyeshadow colors: White, Smoke and Slate, and lining with the Bobbi Shimmergel in Black Ink. It was truly stunning, particularly when combined with Pale Pink blush and the Medium Bronzer, applied lightly. I need to find out what lip combination Diron used, as it was also very beautiful.

2. When I was chatting with Diron, he asked me if I ever read the All About the Pretty blog and just about fell over when I told him that I knew its author Julia. I got to meet Julia a few months ago at the yoga studio we both attend in DC, Tranquilspace. We both agreed Julia’s blog is just amazing. If you have not checked it out yet, you should. Interestingly, I had read the blog before I met her, but since meeting her have read it more regularly.

3. Today at the Sephora near Penn Station in New York, I tried out a fragrance Julia reviewed on her blog: Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie. I generally have trouble falling in love with almond scents because they are too bitter, but this fragrance is a lovely almond vanilla blend, with some sandalwood. I don’t generally like Sandalwood either, but it gives a warm quality to the almond vanilla blend. I think I am in love with this fragrance AND, as a bonus, all of Carol’s Daughter products are paraben-free. I think I will be getting to know this line soon.

I hope everyone has a lovely week filled with your favorite things.
