Preparing Your Skin for Winter: Butters

by Valerie on September 27, 2007 · 0 comments

In the dead of winter, I find that body butters are a necessity for deep moisture and to allow your skin to have a barrier against the cold and dryness. Butters with ingredients like shea butter, avocado butter, cocoa butter or beeswax all help moisturize and protect your skin.

My long-standing favorite body butter is Coconut Hut Beauty’s Big Kahuna Body Butter. It is thick, over 98% natural, paraben free, is made up of 25% shea butter (one of my favorite ingredients) and just generally decadent and wonderful. Lena of Coconut Hut came out with this product back in fall of 2005, and I have been using it since the first month it was released! I especially love that I can pick any of the scents on the Coconut Hut extensive scent list

I have found no less than three other favorite butters this year. One of them is Hannah’s Handprints Natural Body Butter. This butter is thicker than the Coconut Hut butter and has some beeswax in it, and I love it at night. Over the summer I ordered it in Hawaiian Tropics dupe (you know, that tanning oil scent that reminds us all of the 80s) and I need to order some of this butter in vanilla scents. The owner of Hannah’s Handprints is the lovely California-based Christina, who I was fortunate enough to meet in New York back in July. Hannah has a true passion for scents and top notch products, and I can’t wait to order from her again. She carries over 1250 scents, so you are bound to find some favorites!

You will recognize my other two newer favorites from past posts: Burt’s Bees Thoroughly Therapeutic Honey & Shea Butter Body Butter, reviewed here, and Carol’s Daughter Almond Cookie body butter, reviewed here. The downside to both of those products is their limited scent range, but both are top notch quality, so do check them out.
