Beauty Products and Sex and the City Musings Part 2

So I loved the movie. On the makeup front, I did not notice many product placements, though at one point in the Duane Reade Halloween scene, Carrie picked up L’Oreal Voluminous mascara, which is one of my favorites.

I did notice that only Miranda’s makeup was at all different than in the show — she used to be more of a no-makeup person, while in the movie she wore many pretty metallics. Charlotte’s makeup was the same style — a very clean look, as was Samantha’s — lots of gold and highlighting, as was Carrie’s — a bit smudgy with sheer lips.

A couple more things regarding SATC — over the years I have heard “no one dresses like that” and “it’s totally unrealistic.” On the first point, I can assure you there are people in New York who do dress like that. Not everyone, obviously, but occasionally you’ll be at dinner at a fancy place (and if you are me, you will be in your suit straight from work) and someone will walk in in a truly Carrie-sque outfit which is both totally impractical and very expensive. The more “in” spots you go to, the more you will see people dressed like that.

And as for the “it’s totally unrealistic” — I have always thought the friendship between the four women was very realistically portrayed — down to fights and secrets and laughter. And really, that’s what the show and the movie are about. The glitz and the expensive purses is more for the escapism of the show than anything else.

Bah. The fact that some people do dress like that every day makes me ill. And I still say it’s unrealistic, even the friendships! đŸ˜› But I’m glad you liked it…I must be the only person on the planet who just couldn’t get into it, and it’s weird considering how much I love fashion, especially shoes! You’d think I’d love Carrie! Oh well.
