Beautiful Paper – Indie Spotlight on African Grey Designs

I stumbled upon African Grey Designs sometime in October of last year and was immediately struck by the lovely cards. Every card depicts an animal – some domestic, some not-so-domestic – and the art is truly beautiful. Whitney Coleman, the artist and owner of African Grey Designs, captures her subjects in both a serious and whimsical manner.

African Grey Designs’ cards and other items are available through an etsy store – so I ordered a couple of cards to include as part of holiday gifts. Whitney emailed me as soon as she mailed the cards and they arrived in perfect shape. The paper/card of both cards felt heavy and luxurious – what’s even better is that because of Whitney’s commitment to nature and animals, all the paper and envelopes are environmentally friendly.

I asked Whitney about the name of her greeting cards company. Whitney was inspired by her mother-in-law’s African Grey parrot and her love for the color grey in modern designs. In addition to her animal-themed greeting cards, Whitney can do custom work ranging from notecards to illustrations and identity designs (see Whitney Coleman Designs for the later). All pictures by Whitney Coleman.
