City Girl’s Real Simple Corner

As always I heart Real Simple, and when it arrives, I always make sure to spend a quality few hours with my new issue and a cup of tea – though this month it was Cucumber Watermelon Cooler, but I digress. My June issue of Real Simple’s arrived just a few days ago and the theme is all summer – summer fun, good tips and organizations, and summer cooking. I have already made the salmon burger recipe that is part of the All-American Burger article – it’s delicious and, by the way, you can get all Real Simple recipes over at MyRecipes.com. The whole issue is excellent at inspiring you to have fun thsi summer, but I have to say that the two articles I really liked were more practical ones.

My favorite article in this issue was the Tailoring Transformations one – because of the down economy, we are all trying to spruce up and change up clothes we already own. This article was wonderfully in-depth about how to envision changing a clothing item completely, what the cost would be, and how to go about it. Even better, there are detailed pictures. It’s perfect to take along with you to your tailor to explain your vision. In fact, the article suggest using it as a starting point when you discuss alterations and retailoring of clothes.

Another feature I really liked was the Guide to DIY furniture assembly – when you live in small apartments like I do, you find yourself with Ikea and West Elm furniture – which is great because it’s light and small, but requires assembly. I thought the article did a good job at realistically evaluating and succeeding with such projects.

As always, I enjoyed my Real Simple magazine. Do check it out.

I adore Real Simple as well. I don’t subscribe, but I do read it at the library when I am there alone and when the boys are with me, I check it out and bring it home. I read and re-read them often because they always have great tips :)
