A Pearl of Wisdom {by dharmagirl}

I discovered dharmagirl’s wonderful blog bliss: towards a delicious life the last few months, and reading her blog brings me so much happiness. Here is her pearl:

To dharmagirl, age 14

Oh, you sweet girl, stuck in a dreamy fantasy world where the Gilbert Blythes always come through in the end, taking the hands of their girls and walking with them through scented forests and along endless seashores…

But, all you know is the dissolution of crushes as you stand in corners, wait for phones to ring, and retreat to your inner worlds, once again not the chosen one, waiting for your walk into romantic bliss.

You hide out in glorious fantasy or unrelenting doubt, sometimes both.

You’ll continue to wonder, 10, 20 years later if you’re meant to always be alone. Your detail rich daydreams will disappear as you lose yet another kind of faith, and you’ll settle into quiet, comfortable routines.

And yet. It’s these years, these routines, that allow you to settle fully, and comfortably, into yourself, knowing mostly who you are and what you value and all the wonderful things you *can* do for and by yourself, so that when someone special and Gilbert-esque comes along you’ll recognize him. And you’ll believe, with “[your] childhood’s faith,” that you won’t always be alone. You’ll know that this person is to be treasured and valued because you’ve been waiting for this moment. You’ve been waiting for him. And you’re ready. And you’ll believe. You’ll walk through magical forests and along undulating shores, and he’ll be with you.
