NuNaturals NuStevia Review

Stevia
Last month I was offered to the opportunity to try NuNaturals Stevia – I had read about it on several other blogs and actually seen a couple of their products at Whole Foods but, as I often do, I had gotten stuck in a rut of buying one particular brand of stevia since first trying it.   I had initially been quite skeptical of stevia, and it was only after getting an okay from my ND and my doctor and doing a lot of research on it that I had actually tried it.  A no-glycemic sweetener that was not artificial seemed too good to be true at first, but this year, after understanding it was actually derived from the stevia plant and that the key was choosing stevia products without added artificial ingredients, I started experimenting with Sweet Leaf Stevia.  With judicious measuring, I was able to find a happy medium of sweet without the bitterness that I thought was a hallmark of stevia.

And that is where I erred.  I only realized it after receiving a generous box of NuNaturals products (the picture above is a selection of the products I received).  NuNaturals is an Oregon company that offers over 80 gluten-free dietary suplements, including teas, extracts and their flagship brand NuStevia.  And here is the exciting part: NuStevia  makes non-bitter stevia products, which I greatly appreciate.  Furthermore, NuStevia products are all gluten-free and do not contain artificial sweeteners such as asparatame, saccharin, sucralose, high-fructose corn syrup or sugar. Of the products I received, my favorites by far were the liquid stevia extracts and the pure powdered stevia.  I like how they did not have any additional ingredients like maltodextrin (which I cannot tolerate and which is included in some NuNaturals products such as the baking blend) but ultimately, what I like best about NuNaturals stevia products was the fact that the bitterness I associate with stevia is greatly reduced.

And now let’s talk about fun uses for stevia.  There are many recipes on the NuNaturals site. I have used the plain stevia extracts in smoothies and limeade mainly, and have used the Cocoa Bean and Vanilla Stevia in desserts.  These two products are amazing true chocolate and vanilla sweet flavorings respectively. They work great in these recipes:

Mexican Chocolate Mousse

Mexican chocolate mousse

Pumpkin Parfaits

Vegan parfait

Luscious Pumpkin Ice Cream

ice cream

I had made all these recipes once before with Sweet Leaf Stevia and I have to admit, NuNatural Stevia works even better in each recipe.  The flavor is less bitter and the sweetness is more noticeable when I use NuNaturals Stevia.  I also used NuNaturals Vanilla stevia in the Strawberry Ice Cream I made for Christmas, and it was perfect.

If you want to try NuNaturals, here are a couple of ways to do that:

I know this is an old review, but do you remember if there was a noticeable difference in taste between the clear liquid stevia and the alcohol free version?

Thanks!

Not too noticeable, but I generally find alcohol free stevia to be slightly less bitter.
